Oliver Wolcott, Jr

The second Secretary of the Treasury from 1795 to 1800 and the 24th Governor of Connecticut from 1817 to 1827. Partly-printed DS, signed “Oliv Wolcott, Sec’t of the Treasury,” one page, 9.75 x 15.5, November 13, 1800. In part: “Whereas a statement of facts with the Petition of William Wood, Master of the Ship Nepel of Newport in Rhode Island…touching a certain disability incurred under the Statute of the United States, entiled ‘An Act further to suspend the commercial intercourse between the United States and France’…I the said Secretary of Treasury…do therefore decide that the Nepel and her cargo be restored to her owner and be admitted to entry.” Matted to an overall size of 18.5 x 19 with the document held in place by four strips affixed at at the corners. In good condition, with creasing, fragile intersecting horizontal and vertical folds with a vertical line affecting his signature and separations along the folds, chipping, wrinkling, toning, and a missing piece of paper at the bottom right side near his signature.
