Actor (1907–1984) considered the first performer to portray Superman, which he did on July 3, 1940, during the 1939 New York World's Fair's ‘Superman Day.’ Superman did not appear in films until 1941. Black felt tip signature, “Ray Middleton,” on an off-white 6 x 4 card. A tiny image of the actor is affixed at the bottom right. In fine condition, with a small block of toning at the top left corner approaching the start of his name, toning to the extreme edges, and light show-through from pencil notations on the reverse.
