Description

“Dorothy and I appreciated tremendously all of your interest in PORGY”

TLS, one page, 6 x 9.25, Kentucky Home letterhead, October 26, 1927. Heyward comments on his non-musical play Porgy, based on his 1925 novel, which had just opened on Broadway. He later collaborated with George Gershwin to poduce an operatic version of his novel which debuted in 1935 as Porgy and Bess. In part: “Dorothy and I appreciated tremendously all of your interest in PORGY, and especially the fine letter that Lewis wrote to us about it. We were very sorry not to have a chance of really seeing you while in the North, but we were both quite worn out by the strain of production, and fled here at once to recuperate.” In fine condition, with some wrinkling and scattered staining none of which affects the bold signature. A highly desirable reference to his famous work. RRAuction COA.
