Scottish-born industrialist and philanthropist (1835–1919) who earned his fortune in the burgeoning American steel industry. Ornate printed menu, 10.75 x 15, two pages for a dinner in Carnegie’s honor by the Lotus Club in New York, on March 17, 1909. Colorfully printed in calligraphy on the front cover, “Dinner to Andrew Carnegie by the Lotos Club,” inside bears printed drawings, by artist Thomas Sindelar, of Carnegie fishing and playing golf, a ‘tariff’ political cartoon about Carnegie, his homes, a bagpipe player, and steel mills. Also inside is a 3.75 x 5 bust portrait of Carnegie which has been tipped to a 4.25 x 6 swatch of plaid cloth which has been affixed to the left portion of the insert reserved for a photograph of the honoree. Signed inside in pencil by Carnegie. In fine condition, with scattered creasing, toning, and handling wear to covers, with inside mostly unaffected by the flaws.
