Early and distinguished portrait of the tragic Gone With The Wind star

British actor (1893–1943) best remembered for his roles in such classics as Pygmalion, The Petrified Forest, and as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. During World War II he devoted his energies to the war effort and was killed in 1943 when the plane he was on was shot down by German fighters over the Bay of Biscay. Intense matte-finish 8 x 10 Elmer Fyer photo of Howard in a suit and tie, with photographer’s stamp to lower left, signed and inscribed in fountain pen “To Harvey Owsley, from Leslie Howard, 1937.” In fine condition, with silvering to edges and signature contrast mainly to last name and date. A truly spectacular image signed two years before Howard starred as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
