Official Spalding football signed in fountain pen on a side panel above the logo. The ball is also signed by 28 others, including Andy Bodner, Alex ‘Soupy’ Campbell, A. R. Keith, and Rebel Bryan, identifying himself as Captain. In very good condition, with expected moderate contrast and skipping to Roosevelt’s signature, which is also light, but completely legible, a slow leak to ball, scattered light wear and rubbing, and remaining signatures fairly light, but many remain partially legible.
Prior to the polio that would paralyze his legs for the remainder of his life, Roosevelt enjoyed playing the game of football, being part on the Groton High School team and in 1903 serving as manager of Harvard University’s varsity team. Considering his lifelong love affair with the gridiron, Roosevelt undoubtedly considered it an honor to add his name to the roster of this squad. A highly unusual, possibly one-of-a-kind setting for the 32nd president’s signature! Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
