Pioneering African-American musician (1873–1958), known as the 'Father of the Blues,' who wrote such hits as 'Memphis Blues' and 'St. Louis Blues.' Vintage glossy 8 x 10 photo of Handy sitting at a piano with a trumpet on it, signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint, "To Freddie Richards, W. C. Handy, 1-13-1954." In very good condition, with scattered creases and edge tears, moderate contrast to signature and inscription, and a faint block of toning along the top of the image just touching his head.
