Von Braun's 1971 membership card to the Explorers Club, 3.5 x 2.25, signed in blue ink by von Braun. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the Estate of Doris Hunter, who worked closely for years with von Braun and his associates at the Alabama Space and Rocket Center, and later went on to be the Chief of Archives of the von Braun Library. Certificate is signed by Hunter's grandson, Steven Alexander.
The Explorers Club was founded in New York City in 1904 with a mission to promote the scientific exploration of land, sea, air, and space by supporting research and education in the physical, natural and biological sciences. The organization's illustrious membership has been responsible for a great many historic endeavors, including those who were the first to the North Pole, first to the South Pole, first to the summit of Mount Everest, first to the deepest point in the ocean, and the first to the lunar surface.
