Description

"Love to you, Fore Ever"-the largest Jimi Hendrix signature extant-plus stage-used 1968 drumsticks

Absolutely fantastic and huge vintage ballpoint signatures, "Love to you, Fore Ever, Jimi Hendrix," adding a small sketch of a guitar under his signature, and six hearts in between "fore" and "ever," and "Best wishes Noel Redding xxxxxxx," and "Stay beautiful, Love, Mitch xxx," on individual off-white lightly-lined sheets, all measuring approximately 6 x 8. Each sheet is dated "3.1-68," in a collector's hand, the day the autographs were obtained in Gothenburg, Sweden, at the beginning of their trouble-plagued Scandinavian tour. The day after these signatures were obtained Hendrix was arrested for trashing a hotel room, prohibited from leaving the country, and forced to report daily to the local police station.

Also included are two of Mitch Mitchell's concert-used drumsticks from the January 4, 1968, performance at Lorensbergs Cirkus, with one full drumstick signed twice by Mitchell, "Love 'Mitch,'" and "Mitch Mitchell," with the other stick being a partial piece. All three signatures are matted and framed (without glass), along with both drumsticks and a copy of a broadside image promoting the January 4, 1968 concert, to an overall size of 23.25 x 29. In overall fine condition, with the drumsticks showing expected signs of use. Also accompanied by two certificates of authenticity from Tracks, one for the three signatures, and one for the drumsticks, as well as copies of photos of Mitchell rehearsing, a photo of Hendrix, Redding, and Mitchell, and a photocopy of a photo of Hendrix posing with two female fans, who originally acquired the signatures.

The trio had just landed in Sweden when they graciously signed these autographs for an admirer. Having performed at a concert later that same evening, the post-show festivities stretched into the night and well into the next morning-when events took a bizarre turn as Hendrix decided to destroy his hotel room. Manager Chas Chandler tried to quickly-and financially-settle the matter with hotel management but still raising the ire of local police. Nevertheless, the band took to the stage after the exhaustive day of hotel trashing, arrest, and bail, after which Mitchell gifted these drumsticks to a fan. Without question, this is the largest Hendrix signature we have encountered (made even finer by his added guitar sketch), and the inclusion of two concert-used sticks from the iconic tour make this one of the scarcest of any 'Experience.' Oversized. Pre-certified Roger Epperson/REAL and RRAuction COA.
