Partly-printed DS, signed "Th: Jefferson" as president and "James Madison" as secretary of state, one page, 15.5 x 8.5, October 7, 1805. A land grant issued to John Yater and Henry Yater for a parcel of land. In part: "Know Ye, That in pursuance of the act of Congress, passed on the first day of June 1796, entitled, "An act regulating the grants of 'Land appropriated for Military Services, and for the society of the United Brethren for propagating the gospel among the heathen…There is granted unto John Yater and Henry Yater heirs at Law of John Yater decd who was a Sergeant in the late army of the United States; in consideration of the last mentioned John Yater military service a certain tract of land estimated to contain one hundred acres." Signed at the conclusion in ink by Thomas Jefferson, and countersigned by his Secretary of State James Madison. Elaborately suede-matted with portraits of both men and a biographical plaque and framed to an overall size of 27.5 x 37.75. Bisecting folds, scattered creasing and wrinkles, scattered toning, moderate staining touching portions of both signatures, and trimmed edges, otherwise very good condition. The paper seal to lower left is intact, but toned. A desirable presidential combination rewarding veterans of the Continental army. Oversized. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
