Buchanan sorts out a conflict regarding the Brig Salisbury

LS, one page, lightly-lined, 8 x 10, April 16, 1846. Letter to John H. Cushing. In full: 'I have received your letter of the 25th of March last, complaining of the charges of the Consul of the United States at Bordeaux against the Brig ‘Salisbury’ belonging to you on a late voyage to that port. Copies of your letter have been transmitted to Mr. Grigsby for his explanation.' In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, and a few light creases and wrinkles. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, franked in Buchanan’s secretary’s hand, and a copy of an unrelated land grant bearing a secretarial signature. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
