British actor (1893–1943) best remembered for his roles in such classics as the Pygmalion, The Petrified Forest, and as Ashley Wilkes in Gone With the Wind. During World War II he devoted his energies to the war effort and was killed in 1943 when the plane he was on was shot down by German fighters over the Bay of Biscay. DS, signed 'Leslie Howard,' three pages on two adjoining sheets, 8.5 x 11, no date. In part: 'The contract between the Screen Actors Guild, Inc. and British Actors’ Equity Association, printed hereafter, has been approved by the Board of Directors of the Guild Subject to ratification of 60% of the Senior membership. The undersigned, a Senior member, hereby ratifies the said contract.' Scattered wrinkling and light creasing, and some toning to the edges, otherwise fine condition. Howard is quite uncommon in signed documents of any type, and this is a boldly signed example. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
