This recording session for the band’s third album, Waiting for the Sun, was marred by Morrison’s increased dependence on drugs and alcohol. Morrison had dodged a bullet earlier in the month when charges stemming from his infamous arrest during a concert in New Haven, Connecticut, were dropped, yet the singer’s erratic behavior would continue.
Four days after signing this registry in California, Morrison was beaten by security guards he had taunted outside the Pussycat a’ Go Go, a Las Vegas casino. When the police arrived, they arrested the singer on charges of vagrancy, public drunkenness, and failure to possess sufficient identification.
