Description

Days before being beaten and arrested in Vegas in 1968, Morrison and fellow band members sign in for a Waiting For the Sun recording session

Vintage ballpoint signatures, 'J. Morrison,' 'John Densmore,' and 'R. Krieger,' on a 7 x 4.5 trimmed guest register page from a Los Angeles recording studio sign-in book. Above and below the musicians’ signatures are signatures of Vince Treanor, the Doors long-time road manager, who has added the band’s name, with both Treanor signatures dated January 25, 1968. In fine condition. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from Roger Epperson/REAL.

This recording session for the band’s third album, Waiting for the Sun, was marred by Morrison’s increased dependence on drugs and alcohol. Morrison had dodged a bullet earlier in the month when charges stemming from his infamous arrest during a concert in New Haven, Connecticut, were dropped, yet the singer’s erratic behavior would continue.

Four days after signing this registry in California, Morrison was beaten by security guards he had taunted outside the Pussycat a’ Go Go, a Las Vegas casino. When the police arrived, they arrested the singer on charges of vagrancy, public drunkenness, and failure to possess sufficient identification. It is rare to find members of the Doors on one sheet, most notably from such a turbulent period in the band’s existence. RRAuction COA.
