Description

A New Hampshire Signer witnesses a 1779 land transfer

Signer of the Declaration of Independence from New Hampshire (1729–1795). Mostly handwritten by Bartlett, but also partially-printed DS, one page, 7.5 x 12, February 18, 1775. Indenture document, filled in entirely by Bartlett, in which John Jedkins of Kingstown, New Hampshire sells to John Calef and Samuel Philbrick a track of land. In part, “Know all men by the presents that I John Jedkins of Kingstown in the County of Rockingham…for and in consideration of the sum of fifty pounds…truly paid by John Calef…and Samuel Philbrick.” Signed twice by Bartlett, including once at the bottom as a witness. In very good condition, with old tape repairs to strengthen separations along the vertical folds, small holes at the intersection folds, scattered soiling and toning, and light show-through from docketing on reverse. Remnants of a wax seal are intact and Bartlett’s signature is very bold. This historic relic was written just weeks before the Battles of Lexington and Concord. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
