Description

President Coolidge addresses a problem that arises concerning a 1925 appointment

TLS as president signed “Calvin,” one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, August 4, 1925. Coolidge writes Senator Frank. R. Gooding of Idaho. In full: “Thank you for your letter of July 30th in which you recommend Mr. H. E. Ray of Pocatello, Idaho, for United States District Attorney. You may be assured your recommendation will have my earnest consideration, and I am also at once forwarding it to the Attorney General for his consideration.” Coolidge has crossed out the last typed sentence, and added in his own hand: “I was expected to make this appt. Dept. of Justice had not been entirely satisfied with it but I think they will be. I am away and have not seen the files.” In fine condition, with very faint “X” through his name and a paperclip impression at the top of the page. Unusual correspondence with Coolidge providing a handwritten update to the situation. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
