Pioneering American stand-up comic (1925–1966) whose frank, sometimes “obscene” commentary on a variety of taboo subjects made him one of the most controversial yet popular performers of the 1950s and 1960s. He died of a morphine overdose at the age of 40. ANS, on a 3.5 x 5.25 restaurant check, no date. Note reads, “Dear Lady, Please give the bearer $2.35, he brought me over a pepper & sausage sandwich. Lenny Bruce.” At the top, Bruce has added, “You know its real. I lost your key.” Double matted and framed, with a photo of Bruce and a small name plaque, to an overall size of 18 x 14.55. In fine condition, with all text and signature light due to reduced ink flow, but completely legible, and some scattered creases. Any type of correspondence from Bruce is scarce.
