Naval officer (1839-1911) who commanded the destruction of the Spanish fleet at Santiago de Cuba and who led the expedition to rescue Adolphus Greeley in the Arctic. Ink signature, "W. S. Schley, Rear Admiral, U.S.N.," on an off-white 4.75 x 8 sheet. In fine condition, with some scattered light edge toning and creasing, all of which could be easily matted out. RRAuction COA.
