Description

Immense Jackson signature as the president ensures safe passage during an 1832 whaling expedition

Partly-printed DS as president, signed “Andrew Jackson,” one page, 19.5 x 14, August 27, 1832. A four-language ship’s papers issued to the schooner Henrietta of Norwich and commanded by Isaac Hodges, which carried “Ballast and necessary Stores for a whaling and Sealing Voyage.” Signed in the middle by Jackson with his signature measuring almost 7” in length! The official seal is intact. Matted with a colorized portrait and framed to an overall size of 25.25 x 32. In very good condition, with mild toning and soiling, areas of paper loss along two of the intersecting folds, and a small tear touching the first letter of Jackson’s last name. A ‘whaling and sealing’ ship’s paper is very unusual. Oversized. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
