Argentine-born Marxist political activist (1928–1967) who played a central role as Fidel Castro’s most trusted associate during the Cuban Revolution. After serving in various positions in Castro’s government, Guevara organized and led guerrilla efforts to overthrow the corrupt regimes of the Congo and Bolivia. Captured during a 1967 campaign in Bolivia, he was executed on the following day and instantly attained status as a martyr and one of the most revered and influential political revolutionaries of the 20th century. Visually striking color DS, in Spanish, signed near the top in ink, with his usual diminutive “che,” one page, 14 x 10, no date, bearing images of Lenin and Marx, as well as the flags of Cuba and Russia. Certificate awarded to Rolando Marrero for completing 240 hours of voluntary work for the country. Document also bears an embossed seal to lower left. In very good condition, with partial separation along a heavy vertical fold, creasing and light staining to edges, and scattered light toning and foxing.
A political activist, Guevara went on to serve as Castro’s minister of industries and the island nation’s finance minister before obtaining his iconic status amongst some people. For followers like Mr. Marrero, any form of recognition from the Cuban government was undoubtedly viewed with high praise. Obviously dating from after the 1959 revolution, this astonishing page nicely ties together the Marxist leader with the Soviet Union and the ideas of Vladimir Lenin and Karl Marx.
