Description

With tongue-in-cheek, Lennon gives his ‘daughter’ a copy of his first book

Signed book: In His Own Write. Later printing. London: Johnathan Cape, 1964. Hardcover, 5.5 x 7, 78 pages. Humorously signed and inscribed in blue ballpoint pen on the first free end page, “To Caroline Lennon from John Lennon (your dad).” In fine condition, with block of even toning over most of the signed page scratches to the front cover, and mild chipping along the spine. Lennon shows his legendary sense of humor while also providing two “Lennon” signatures.

Lennon found avenues other than music to express his creativity. This specific literary effort—his first published work and the first solo effort of any of the Beatles—consisted of nonsensical, disjointed short stories and line drawings. While the pages of this book detail Lennon’s free-form creative abilities, Lennon surely enjoyed the opportunity to play around with an adoring fan who had the good fortune of sharing the familial name!
