Description

Discussing Lincoln films with a Springfield reviewer, the Gone With The Wind producer admits: “Abe Lincoln in Illinois, which I thought a superb film, was a dreadful failure”

TLS, one page, 7.25 x 10.5, personal letterhead, February 12, 1959. Selznick writes to an Illinois movie reviewer regarding a movie about Lincoln. In part: “On Miss Jones [actress Jennifer Jones] behalf and my own, thank you for the suggestion regarding Mary Todd Lincoln. Unfortunately I am afraid that I share what you write about so knowingly - the Hollywood fear of Lincoln stories. Even the one you mention as an ‘exception,’ Abe Lincoln in Illinois, which I thought a superb film, was a dreadful failure.” In fine condition. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
