Distinguished British poet (1809–1892) who was one of the most highly regarded and influential literary figures of the Victorian era. ALS signed “Tennyson,” one page both sides, 4.5 x 7, Aldmorth, Haslemere letterhead, August 11, 1892. Tennyson writes Edward Wilkinson. In part: “Let me assure you that I value highly your most kind good wishes and that with all sincerity I thank you warmly for them and for having been at the trouble of writing to me on my 83rd birthday. Accept from me and mine all best wishes for yourself and for all you love.” Horizontal fold, small circular rust stain at the far left edge of the first page touching one letter, light show-through of handwriting on opposing sides, and faint mirroring of his signature and handwriting on the second integral page, otherwise fine condition. A seldom-seen heartfelt letter of thanks from the poet laureate. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
