Gus Grissom took this 1964 Roosevelt silver dime with him during the 1965 Gemini 3 mission. The dime was carried especially for Guenter Wendt, NASA’s well-respected pad leader from 1960 to 1975. After the mission, Grissom scratched the flight initials “GT 3” onto the surface of the coin’s face, adjacent to FDR’s chin, and presented it to Wendt. The dime—the only one that Grissom carried with him on that particular flight—is now sealed in a 2 x 2 clear plastic case. Accompanied as provenance by a handwritten COA on a 5 x 2.5 lined card that reads: “This coin (less plastic case) was flown on GT-3 on March 23, 1965 and presented to G. Wendt by G. Grissom.” Wendt has signed twice, dating the card “Burbank 9-4-‘04.” The COA is affixed to an 8 x 11 biographical sheet showing Wendt holding the dime. RRAuction COA.
