Amazing flight-flown printed fabric American flag, 6 x 4, and mission insignia patch, 5 x 4, both flown aboard Apollo 8 during mankind’s first flight to the moon. Both items are affixed to a 14 x 11 certificate stating “Carried on board Apollo 8. First Lunar Flight. 21-27 December, 1968.” The certificate bears a printed inscription, “To Jerry Carr, Thanks for all your help”, and nicely signed in black felt tip by astronauts Frank Borman, Jim Lovell, and Bill Anders. In fine condition, with a few edge chips to certificate and small missing piece of the upper right corner of the paper. Carr was a member of the astronaut support crew and served as CAPCOM for the Apollo 8 mission. Accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Carr’s wife that reads in part: “My husband…was a member of the astronaut corps and was assigned to support the Apollo 8 mission. This flown patch and flag were presented to him in appreciation of his efforts. It is part of the Carr Collection and has been in my possession since the Apollo 8 crew presented it.” Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
