Description

The first Apollo crew to land on the moon sign a Beta cloth patch

An 8.25 x 8.75 swatch of Beta cloth, bearing a printed 3.5-inch diameter Apollo 11 mission emblem, signed around the emblem in black felt tip by crew members Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. In fine condition, with a bit of light feathering and skipping to portions of signatures due to nature of material, light horizontal and vertical fold, and some mild edge toning from adhesive remnants on reverse. Beta cloth is a type of fireproof woven fiber cloth used in the manufacturing of the space suit. Designed by Frederick S. Dawn, a scientist who worked with the Dow-Corning Company, the fabric was made to withstand temperatures exceeding 650°C and was used in all NASA space suits following the deadly launchpad fire of Apollo 1. An outstanding relic from this most historic and avidly collected of Apollo missions. Pre-certified Scott Cornish and RRAuction COA.
