Description

An aging former president’s rare message: “I write as few letters as possible and those I do write often abusively brief”

Self-contained partial ALS, one page, lightly-lined, 5.25 x 8.5, August 16, 1872. Fillmore writes to Day O. Kellogg, in part: “But writing was always irksome to me, and grows more so as I grow older. Hence I write as few letters as possible and those I do write often abusively brief.” In very good condition, with area of ink erosion to one word, toning and chipping to the right side, trimmed left side, and the signature removed from the missing second page and affixed at the bottom. Honest content to an old friend. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
