Description

Dalton signs his first person account of the Old West

Part of the last notorious outlaw gang in the Old West. When he and his brothers Robert and Grattan attempted to rob the Condon Bank in Coffeville, Kansas on October 15, 1892, only Emmett would survive, although he had been shot 20 times. Sentenced to life imprisonment, he surprisingly proved to be a model prisoner and was released in 1907. Maintaining his rehabilitation, Dalton married his childhood sweetheart and became an ardent champion of law and order in his popular writings and lectures. Signed book: When the Daltons Rode. First edition, first printing. NY: Doubleday, Doran, and Co., 1931. Hardcover, 5.75 x 8.5, 313 pages. Signed and inscribed on the half-title page, “To Mr. Goodman from Emmett Dalton.” Irregular moderate block of toning over signature and inscription from newspaper obituary affixed to opposite page, partial separation along front hinge, mild sunning to spine, and mild cover wear, otherwise very good condition. A rare Old West signature in any form! Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
