ALS, three pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, personal letterhead, November 9, 1899. Letter to C. H. Kavanaugh. In part: “The underwear came a few days ago, but I did not try a suit on until this morning. For fit, style, material, and manufacture, these garments are exactly what I wanted…I feel quite happy and rich. I am sorry that I mentioned in my former letter, thicker suits for duck-hunting purposes, and I hope you will not go to any trouble to supply them. Perhaps I shall not take my usual ducking trip this winter, and if I do I am certain I can get along perfectly well with the underclothing now in hand…My experience with you a few years ago…reminds me that in carrying out your friendly intentions, you are as stubborn as a certain other man is accused of being.” A uniform shade of toning, and some light show-through and mirroring of ink, otherwise fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope, addressed in Cleveland’s hand. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
