Glenn Strange

Actor (1899–1973) who, after appearing in a string of westerns, became better known as Frankenstein’s monster after Boris Karloff declined to continue in the role he had created. Strange played the character in three films, but later gained his greatest fame for his role as bartender Sam Noonan in the durable TV western Gunsmoke. Vintage glossy 10 x 8 Universal promotional photo from The Wistful Widow of Wagon Gap, signed and inscribed on the reverse in fountain pen “A hearty howdy to my friend Ovan Maule. Sincerely, Glenn Strange.” A promotional caption is also affixed to the reverse. In fine condition, with three punch holes to left edge, scattered light surface marks, creases, and impressions to image side, and a bit of scattered mild toning to reverse.
