Lincoln’s Secretary of War, whose later dismissal led to Johnson’s impeachment

American politician (1814–1869) who served as secretary of war in the cabinets of Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. Original 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite Brady photo(and so stamped on reverse), signed in black ink, “Edwin M. Stanton.” In very good condition, with scattered surface rubbing and slight surface loss under signature, as well as a bit of scattered light soiling and toning. A scarce and dignified portrait.
