Highly influential Russian author whose 1862 novel Fathers and Sons remains one of the pillars of nineteenth-century literature. Rare 2.5 x 4 carte-de-visite portrait by Lege & Bergeron of Paris, signed and inscribed in ink below the image, dated Paris 1879. In very good to fine condition, with light scuffing, small area of emulsion loss within the inscription and areas of irregular ink flow to the inscription, the image a bit light, and a block of uniform toning over all but the top edge. Turgenev is quite uncommon in all forms, most notably in signed photographs. Provenance: The Barry Hoffman Collection. RRAuction COA.
