John C. Fremont

Prominent American explorer, military officer, and politician (1813–1890) who mapped the Oregon Trail, played a prominent part in conquering California during the Mexican War, and ran in 1856 as the first Republican presidential candidate. ALS signed “J. C. Fremont,” one page, 4.5 x 7, May 10, 1861. Fremont writes to a Mr. Fanshawe of the Board of Trade. In part: “I go tonight to Paris tonight, to return I think on Monday. Immediately on my return I will see you at Whitehall, and arrange to see Mr. Ripley.” In very good condition, with some creasing and light soiling (areas of erased soiling near top and bottom).
