Frederick Treves

British surgeon (1853–1923) who saved Edward VII’s life with an emergency appendectomy shortly before the coronation and who served as the personal physician to ‘Elephant Man’ John Merrick. ALS, one page, 4.75 x 7.5, Balmoral Castle letterhead, October 9, 1908. In full: “I am much honoured by the kind invitation of the Master and Wardens of Salters Company for November 11th but much regrets that I am already engaged on the evening of that day.” In fine condition, with old tape residue at the top and bottom borders, just touching the paraph.
