Incredible and extremely rare vintage glossy 8 x 10 portrait as Rhett Butler, signed and inscribed in fountain pen, “To Marie Lavoria, Kindest Wishes Always, Clark Gable.” In fine condition, with scattered surfaces creasing and marks and some silvering to the darker areas. While signed 8 x 10 portraits of Vivien Leigh as Scarlett O’Hara sporadically appear on the market, similar photos of Gable in character are far rarer. Accompanied by a letter from Miss Lavoria that reads in part: “I had a very good friend who was cameraman on Gone With the Wind and being a fan of Clark Gable’s I asked his sister if he would send me a photograph autographed by Clark Gable personally—the attached note regarding the photograph will help to prove that the signature is Clark Gable’s authentic signature.” Accompanied, as well, by the original note from that cameraman, in part: “Enclosed find Gable’s picture for Marie—I watched him endorse it.” This is the finest example we have seen!
