Description

Grover Cleveland

ALS as president, two pages, 4.75 x 7.5, Executive Mansion letterhead, May 13, 1888. Letter of thanks to J. P. Bass, sending thanks for a gift of salmon. In part: “Please accept my thanks for the beautiful salmon I received from you a day or two ago. You say it ‘is the largest one ever taken with a fly in the river.’ I think upon my experimental knowledge of its delicacy I should be willing to assert that it is also the best fish caught in the river…I am man enough to envy the man who caught it.” Matted and framed with the original Executive Mansion mailing envelope, a portrait of Cleveland, and a partial transcript of the letter, to an overall size of 28 x 12.5. In fine condition, with a uniform shade of toning to first page, some light mirroring of ink on second page of letter and toning and wear to envelope. Oversized. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
