American pilot (1907–1995) best remembered for a 1938 navigational “error” (now widely believed to have been a purposeful protest against government red tape) that landed him in Dublin instead of his stated destination of California. Fountain pen signature and inscription, “To Irving, Wrong Way to Ireland. Douglas Corrigan,” on an off-white 4.75 x 3.25 slip. In fine condition, with scattered soiling and trimmed edges touching the tips of a few letters. Accompanied by a vintage postcard portrait of Corrigan, bearing a pre-printed signature, standing beside his ‘$900 crate.’ RRAuction COA.
