Ordered the surrender of Nixon’s White House recordings

Chief Judge (1904–1992) during the Watergate hearings who effected a pivotal turning point in the investigation when he demanded that Nixon turn over his “secret” recordings of White House conversations. TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States District Court letterhead, November 28, 1975. Letter to a collector and law student. In part: “I have been busily engaged in presiding at a medical malpractice case which has lasted five weeks and just went to the jury…the jury is now deliberating…I was also delighted to hear that you have decided to become a lawyer, and I feel certain that you will be an excellent one.” In fine condition.
