Description

The Speaker sends his signature

ALS, one page, 8 x 10, February 16, 1839. Letter, written as Speaker of the House, to James Root of Saratoga Springs complying with an autograph request. In full: “In compliance with the request contained in your letter of the 9th Instant, I herewith send you my autograph.” Reverse bears a short address panel in Polk’s hand. Letter is archivally sleeved in acid-free Mylar. In fine condition, with intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature, uniform light toning over text and signature from previous display. Pre-certified John Reznikoff/PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
