ANS as president signed “R.B.H.,” on a 4.5 x 2.75 Executive Mansion card, January 10, 1878. Short note reads in full: “I wish the Portsmouth case to wait until I can see you & look into it. Can you have the Senate Committee hold the confirmation?” Notation on reverse in another hand identifies the recipient as “Judge Tyner” .Several light creases, and some scattered light toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. The note’s recipient may very well be James Noble Tyner, who served as Postmaster General under U. S. Grant and was demoted to Assistant Postmaster General under Hayes.
