Four-star general (1883–1946), aka “Vinegar Joe” and “Old Joe,” best known for his service in China. Relieved from command in 1944 as part of FDR’s geopolitical maneuvering in Asia, Stilwell was reassigned to command the American ground forces during the final battle for Okinawa in 1945. Two items: block of six United States Postal Service three-cent postage stamps, 4.25 x 3.25, signed in blue fountain pen, “Joseph W. Stilwell, Gen., U.S.A.”; and a black fountain pen signature, “Joseph W. Stilwell, Gen., U.S.A.” on a 5 x 3 card. In fine condition, with light toning to the card.
