American military officer (1785-1819) who served in the War of 1812 and earned the title “Hero of Lake Erie” for leading American forces in a decisive naval victory at the Battle of Lake Erie. DS, signed “O.H. Perry,” one page, 7.75 x 6, July 31, 1806. A receipt reading, “Received July 31st, 1806 of the Navy Department a warrant No. 5229 for fifty dollars with which I am to charged and held accountable.” In very good condition, with a tiny paper hole, corner chip, scattered light soiling and toning (one spot affecting his two initials) and splitting at edges of a central horizontal fold.
