Relieved of command by Grant following Chickamauga just a month earlier, the Union general sends a war-dated note approving a literary proposal

Union general (1819–1898) who, after a long string of victories, was defeated at Chickamauga and relieved of his command. War-dated ALS signed “W. S. Rosecrans, Maj. Genl,” one page, 7.5 x 9.75, November 22, 1863. Letter to W. C. Church regarding a new publication. In part: “Your note inclosing prospectus of the Army & Navy Journal has at last reached my table. The success of a paper devoted to the interests and objects proposed is highly desirable.” In fine condition, with scattered light toning and soiling, a bit lightly affecting signature, and intersecting folds, one through a single letter of signature.
