He ran unsuccessfully for the presidency in 1864 and later served as Governor of New Jersey. ALS signed “Geo. B. McClellan,” two pages on two adjoining sheets, 4.5 x 7, January 3, 1880. Letter to General Winfield Scott Hancock declining an invitation to the Aztec Club dinner. In part: “I have just received the card in relation to the Aztec Dinner—I am sorry that it happens at a time when it is out of my power to attend. I have a Legislation ‘pending.’” Letter is encased in protective Mylar. Intersecting folds, light toning, and docketing to reverse of second page, otherwise fine condition.
