Description

Uncommon Ringling Bros. contract signed by Charles

Uncommon DS, signed “Chas. Ringling,” one page both sides, 8.5 x 14, October 18, 1917. Ringling hires the Castellos equestrian act for the 1918 season, at a salary of $115 per week. Document notes Edith Walton to be the principal rider, with both ladies “to ride in one or two acts with other performers supplied by Ringling Bros. Edith Walton to do general clowning.” Signed on the reverse in black ink by Ringling. Accompanied by an original candid photo of Edith practicing. Light overall toning, expected folds, and some scattered light toning and soiling, otherwise fine condition. Charles is rare in this form, as he is usually found most often on checks.
