Engraving of a Whistler work bearing his unique butterfly signature

Pioneering and influential American-born artist (1834–1903), best known for his distinctively evocative portraits, city and landscapes, and the “Arrangement in Gray and Black,” aka “Whistler’s Mother.” Mezzotint engraving by Richard Josey (1878), 14 x 17.5, of Whistler’s work entitled Arrangement in Grey and Black, No.2 Portrait of Thomas Carlyle. Signed in the lower border in pencil, “Whistler,” along with a splendid example of his famous butterfly signature. Engraving also bears a Print Sellers Association blindstamp. Matted and framed to an overall size of 21.5 x 25.5. In fine condition. Oversized. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
