Lang details a trip to Los Angeles, meeting with Hitchcock, Wilder, Vidor, and Pickford

Handwritten daily journal, 15 pages on lined yellow 8.5 x 11 sheets. Handwritten records of the dates from a trip most likely to Los Angeles - along with the journalist Lotte H. Eisner, where he met numerous stars and executives of Hollywood film. In a tabular arrangement in three columns headed with the date, the main activities and evening activities. The director records the period from March 2 to April 11, minutely his daily appointments set. A small sampling includes:

“March 2: arrival March 3: called Mary Pickford, March 4:…Long: letters to Zanuck… March 7: 10AM Sternberg called, picked me up at 11 for Beachcombers King Vidor called: Packed… March 8:…Calling Hitchcock [!]: UNIVERSAL (he’ll call) William Wyler 20th Century Fox (left message)…Renoir wants to call back… March 9:…Lang called Bill Ihnan v. Edith Head: on vacation Mary Pickford sick - canceled appointment Willy Wyler called: call him 23rd call Hitchcock: 16 afternoon Gene Kelly will call when he has time… “March 13: 10:30-2 working on Bogdanovichs interview…Billy Wilder: playing Goldwyn Studio…“ Other names mentioned in Lang’s journal include: Charles Chaplin, William Wellman, Mervin LeRoy, King Vidor, Georg Cukor, John Ford, Henry King, Rouben Mamoulian, Vincente Minnelli, Mary Pickford, Raoul Walsh, and Billy Wilder.”

In fine overall condition, with red felt tip notations and underlines throughout, and mild handling wear. An interesting insight into the numerous contacts of the cult director with the biggest names in the film, with producers, directors, actors, scriptwriters, etc. In fine condition. RRAuction COA.
