Shaw writes his biographer: “Quintessences have now become soft soap”

ALS signed “G. Bernard Shaw,” on the correspondence side of a 3.5 x 5.5 picture postcard of Shaw, dated January 17, 1949. Brief letter to the author of his biography, Henry Charles Duffin, written while in Ayot Saint Lawrence. In full: “Have a look at the current Times Literary Supplement. Quintessences have now become soft soap.” Accompanied by a typed manuscript of correspondence between Shaw and Duffin from between 1919 and 1922, the galley proofs of “Quintessence,” with several corrections and notations in Shaw’s hand. In fine condition, with rusty paperclip mark to letter side, a crease to lower right corner, and silvering and surface marks to image side. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
