American writer and illustrator (1880–1938) whose stories featuring the rag dolls Raggedy Ann and Andy take a place among the most beloved and best-selling children’s literature of all time. The dolls based on Gruelle’s characters have sold in the millions since their introduction in the late 1910s. Raggedy Ann’s Sunny Songs three album set signed and inscribed on the first inside sleeve, “To Eleonore Ruth and Tommy, With a magical wish that their lives may always be filled with Sunny Songs of Happiness, Johnny Gruelle, Nov. 20, 1931.” In fine condition, with some scattered light wear and creasing to covers.
