ALS signed as president “R. B. Hayes,” one page, 4.5 x 6.75, Executive Mansion letterhead, December 13, 1880. Hayes, in the last months of his presidency, writes to the Reverend A. R. Peterson. In full: “I accept with pleasure the invitation to attend the first annual dinner of the New England Society of Brooklyn Tuesday Evening, Dec. 21st, 1880. I have an invitation from Mr. A. A. Low to be his guest, and will by the mail of today send a note of acceptance.” In very good condition, with toning, and moderate to advanced fading to writing, which nonetheless remains fully legible.
