Description

Ghostly Shackleton signature

Eerie vintage vertical fountain pen signature, “Ernest Shackleton,” on an off-white 3.75 x 6.5 album page, dated in another hand October 31, 1909, and signed again along the bottom of the page, “Ernest Shackleton.” Vertical signature has been intentionally mirrored along the album page as it is housed in its original hardcover album entitled “The Ghosts of My Friends,” a book of somewhat glossy pages creased down the center of each page. People would sign their names along the crease and and quickly fold the paper, creating a ghostly inkblot. Each page also had spaces for the name and date. Book is also signed by Arthur Evans, a British archaeologist most famous for unearthing the palace of Knossos on the Greek island of Crete at Kephala. In fine condition, with a light overall shade of toning, and expected bisecting fold through signature and related and intentional spreading of ink. A unique and interesting format. The book’s covers are lightly worn, a bit heavier to the edges. Pre-certified PSA/DNA and RRAuction COA.
